GENTLY DOWN THE STREAM
This song has seemed mid-stream to us, if you will, and we've had it slated for weeks to go back into the studio for additional recording (and words)... But there is something simple and good about the vocalise... Chances are good, though, that this isn't the last you'll hear of this piece.

BIRD SONG
For the lark.

THE WORLD IS OUTSIDE
The next bit of new material that we've been working on...

THINGS ARE NOT PERFECT IN OUR YARD
The first of four songs that we'll be making available here from our Winter/Spring 2008 sessions.

THE CITY AND THE TRAVELER
We've always been interested in how folk songs evolve over time and across distances through mis-hearing lyrics and mis-remembering melodies. Here is a mis-hearing of our song Cincinnati Traveler.

HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS
and THE GOLDEN DAY IS DYING
The other week we recorded one of our very favorite pieces from the American songbook: Hem's Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas appears on a new Nettwerk sampler entitled A Winter's Night. The album is for sale on iTunes HERE. (it includes tracks from a bunch of our favorite artists).

The Golden Day is Dying is from No Word From Tom, our new record of covers and miscellany. It's quite a different sound from the album snippets that were available before - a guitar and harmony duet version of one of Sally's old favorites - and all together we hope these tracks give you a sense of what the record sounds like. We love it.

BETTING ON TRAINS and HOLLOW
These two live recordings come from Hem's June 2005 UK dates. Hollow was the band's UK single this past spring, and it's such a strange and beautiful song that we really don't tire of playing it live -- Betting on Trains is among the Rabbit Songs tracks that we've totally remade over the years; this mach 3 version gives us a little more room to move than the album arrangement does, and, especially when we're joined by Mark (as we are here), it's become a live highlight for us.
(Rabbit Songs has just been re-released by Rounder -- if you have trouble finding it in your store, drop us a note and then head to http://www.amazon.com)
These tracks are both soundboards from the laptop of and live-sound maven and bon ami, Arnaud Chaney.

CARRY ME HOME (Live radio broadcast)
This particular version of the Eveningland closing track was recorded at Minnesota Public Radio's beautiful new studios on January 22, 2005. Please support MPR and public radio by clicking here

TENNESSEE WALTZ (Live)
In 2002, we threw our hat into the ring and began playing this oft-covered gem of a simple, sad song. The ballad's standard rests with Patti Page, but it remains a stirring song to sing, and here's our recording from The Orange Peel in Ashville, NC, August 2003.
